Leaks can be very dangerous. Most can be caused by a lack of maintenance on the pipes. We recommend conducting regular inspections and practicing maintenance on your property as you seem fit. Having knowledge about the age, location, and material of your pipes will be helpful knowing when you will need repiping on your property or community. Slab leaks are not particularly common, but you should be advised that once a slab leak is identified, you must act quickly.
A slab leak can be caused by massive pressure compressing the pipes and eventually causing a shift and a crack in the pipe. By this description, this does seem a bit messy, but it does take some time before the pipe actually cracks. There is time to recognize a slab leak before it gets to that point.
Do not try to dig to see the crack! That is the worst possible thing you could do. Call your emergency plumber and have them come down as soon as possible. You may have to shut off your water. Having an experienced plumber can benefit your property. If you do not have a commercial plumber on hand already, we highly recommend getting one before an emergency plumbing issue ensues. That way you have a plumber that already knows the specs of your property and know your layout so they can conduct their service with precision.
