Improve Your Building’s Water Usage

It wasn’t too long ago that Morgan Hill’s Anderson Dam had more than 14,000 San Jose residents evacuate due to an overflow President’s weekend.  We have known for years that California isn’t known for an excess of water.  Water usage has become a problem in California.  We see it every month on our water bills.  As property managers, HOA’s, or apartment complex managers it is difficult.  When water costs more, water bills can seem a bit extreme.  But, there are precautions that you can take to be able to use less water.

Reduce your water usage by:

• Replacing old pipes: Often, old pipes have leaks.  These leaks can waster over thousands of dollars of water every year.
• Stay on top of maintenance: Even if it is just a free inspection biannually, if you have the right plumber, you can find issues that, if left untreated can cause a plumbing emergency.
• Maintain clean pipes: If you have never heard of hydro jetting, you are missing out.  It is one of the most effective tools that we have to clean out debris from industrial pipes.  This will help reduce clogs and even find leaks. Learn more about hydro jetting here.
• Let your community know: If you know that there is going to be an increase in the cost of water, send out a notice.  Many times, this will help people understand why their water bill is higher than last month and be more conscious about their water usage.
